Ma La (麻辣) which literally translates as numb spicy in Chinese is slowly winning over taste buds around the world, including spicy-loving Singaporeans.
The numbness is caused by a spice known as Szechuan pepper, and along with a number of other spices and chilli, they form the base ingredients for a very thick tasty broth mostly used for hotpots.
